After 20 years of being a "church on the move" it was a historic weekend for Park Community Church as we opened our doors to our first permanent facility located at 1001 N. Crosby. While excited about the new building, an even greater sense of thankfulness for God's provision of this space permeated the congregation.
From the outset clarity exposed one concept: God is faithful.
Worship pastor Joseph Tenney opened the morning services singing an original song with the lyrics, "You are faithful, you are faithful God..."
Lead pastor Jackson Crum stood and reminded people of the sacrifices made to realize this building: giving up vacations and new homes, sacrificing a daily stop at Starbucks, working an extra year before retirement, and the hundreds of volunteer hours used to complete the building.
"But this morning isn't about you or what you've done," he reminded the congregation, "this building stands as a testimony of God's faithfulness to Park Community Church."
At Park Community Church's inception, the vision of the founding pastor, Matt Heard, was that we'd carry out ministry in the shadow of the skyline. In a stirring part of the worship service the curtains on the stage were drawn back to reveal the view of the city skyline from our auditorium as we sang the words:
"Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here"
We're grateful for God's faithfulness in providing this new building, but we recognize there is still more ahead for Park Community Church. This new space is not the end of our journey, but the beginning of what God has in store for us.
Greater things are yet to come!
